Derek DeLia is an Associate Professor at the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University. His research focuses on healthcare payment reforms, Medicaid policy, emergency medical care access, social determinants of health, and childhood obesity. He holds a Ph.D. and MA in Economics from Cornell University and a BA in Economics/Mathematics from Rutgers University-Camden.
Dr. DeLia has secured over $5.3 million as a Principal Investigator and contributed to $18.8 million as a co-Investigator in research funding. His work has been funded by federal agencies like NIH, AHRQ, and PCORI, and he has advised entities such as the U.S. DHHS, CBO, and NJDHSS. He has also served on key policy commissions and review committees.
His research spans healthcare access disparities, ACO performance measurement, and the impact of food environments on obesity. Notable studies include evaluations of Maryland’s global budget model and the role of clinician collaboration in cancer surgery access. His findings have been published in journals like Health Affairs and Annals of Emergency Medicine.
