Dr. Dereje Gete is a Research Fellow at the Australian Women and Girls' Health Research Centre, School of Public Health, The University of Queensland. He earned his PhD in Epidemiology in 2022, focusing on pre-pregnancy dietary patterns and child health outcomes using longitudinal studies. His current research involves the Genetic variants, Early Life exposures, and Longitudinal Endometriosis symptoms Study (GELLES) and the Mothers and their Children's Healthcare Experience Study (MatCHES), leveraging nationwide cohort data.
Research interests include epidemiology of nutrition, infectious diseases, and women’s and children’s health. He has contributed to studies on endometriosis’s impact on healthcare utilization, iron deficiency, and health-related quality of life. His work also explores global health systems resilience and lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Gete’s publications span journals like Human Reproduction and Preventive Medicine, reflecting his focus on translational epidemiology.
