Derald Wing Sue is a Professor of Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University. He is a leading scholar in multicultural psychology, focusing on microaggressions, racism, and antiracism. His work emphasizes the psychological impact of everyday discrimination and strategies for intervention.
Dr. Sue earned a B.A. from Oregon State University and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Oregon. He co-founded the Asian American Psychological Association (AAPA) with his brother Stanley Sue in 1972 and has held leadership roles in the American Psychological Association (APA), including presidency of Division 45 (Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues).
His research explores microaggressions as 'toxic rain' on college campuses and advocates for microinterventions to combat systemic bias. He has authored influential books such as Microaggressions in Everyday Life and Counseling the Culturally Diverse.
Awarded numerous honors, Sue’s contributions to education, counseling, and social justice are widely recognized. He recently delivered the Root Lecture at Washington and Lee University on microaggressions in academia.
