Denver Whittington is an Associate Professor of Physics at Syracuse University and currently serves as Co-Chair of the Community Committee within the Physics department. His research focuses on neutrino physics, particularly the design, construction, and operation of neutrino detectors, and the analysis of neutrino interaction data. He specializes in long-baseline neutrino oscillation physics and detector development, contributing to major experiments like NOvA and DUNE.
Whittington holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Indiana University (2012), an M.S. in Physics from the same institution (2005), and a B.A. in Physics & Mathematics from Anderson University (2004). His work involves advancing neutrino detection technologies, including liquid argon time projection chambers (LArTPCs) and cross-section measurements critical for understanding neutrino behavior. He has been awarded the Physics Faculty Teaching Award (2023) and the Social Justice and Community Building Award (2023) from Syracuse University.
His research grants include leadership roles in projects like the "Neutrino Research at Syracuse University" (NSF, 2022-2025) and collaborations on detector design for the DUNE experiment. Whittington actively participates in academic service, including roles on the NOvA Institutional Board and the DUNE collaboration. His presentations span topics like neutrino oscillations and the potential of large neutrino detectors for future physics discoveries.
