His research focuses on Human Breast Cancer Anti-Hormonal Resistance, with particular expertise in biomarker development. His laboratory investigates the clinical utility of HOXB13:IL17BR and MGI biomarkers in estrogen receptor-positive, lymph node negative breast cancer patients, and examines the molecular functional role of HOXB13 and IL17BR in anti-hormonal therapeutic response.
Dr. Sgroi's publications reveal a consistent focus on breast cancer microenvironment and treatment resistance mechanisms. His work spans molecular pathology, tumor-stroma interactions, and translational cancer research with implications for personalized treatment approaches.
As part of the Massachusetts General Hospital Breast Pathology Service, he contributes to a program handling approximately 4,500 case accessions annually, with 3,400 representing in-house breast cases across various specimen types.
