Dr. Dennis Savill is an Assistant Professor of History at Southern Nazarene University (SNU) and Director of Debate, having founded the nationally competitive Debate Squad at SNU. He previously founded a middle/upper school policy debate program at Crossings Christian School, winning seven state titles. With a 13-year IT career at companies like the Daily Oklahoman and Sonic, he transitioned to teaching in 2012, instructing courses in College Speech, Journalism, AP European History, Computers, and Apologetics. He is a nine-year veteran yearbook advisor, integrating Agile Project Management into student projects.
Education:
- B.S. in Computer Science, Oklahoma City University (1997)
- M.A. in History, University of Central Oklahoma (2015)
- Pursuing Doctorate at SNU (since July 2024)
His research focuses on equipping Christian students with logical frameworks and persuasive skills to defend their faith through dialectic techniques and project-based learning. He emphasizes combining historical and Biblical examples to argue Christianity's coherence against intellectual challenges.
Labs/Teams: Directs SNU Debate Squad and oversees Crossings Christian School debate programs. Active in mentoring students through yearbook projects and Agile methodologies.
