Prof. Dennis Kochmann is a Full Professor of Mechanics and Materials and Head of the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich. He previously served as Head of the Institute of Mechanical Systems (2018-2020) and Deputy Head (2020-2022). His expertise spans metamaterials, multiscale modeling, and solid mechanics.
Education:
- Diploma (Dipl.-Ing.) in Mechanical Engineering/Applied Mechanics from Ruhr-University Bochum
- Master's in Engineering Mechanics from University of Wisconsin-Madison (Fulbright Fellow)
- Dr.-Ing. from Ruhr-University Bochum (2009)
Research Interests: Focuses on architected materials, multiscale modeling, ferroelectric ceramics, and computational mechanics. His work bridges nano-to-macro scales and explores instability-driven dynamics in materials.
