Dennis Condron is a Professor of Sociology at Oakland University's Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work and Criminal Justice. He holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan-Flint and M.A./Ph.D. degrees from The Ohio State University. His research focuses on social stratification, particularly as it relates to education, examining how economic and racial inequalities shape educational opportunities and outcomes. Notable contributions include studies on school finance litigation, summer learning gaps, and the Black/White achievement gap.
Condron's work bridges macro-level structural factors (e.g., school funding policies) with micro-level processes (e.g., student social capital). He has published over 20 articles in leading journals like Sociology of Education and American Sociological Review, including his award-winning 2009 study on social class influences on learning. His research emphasizes global comparative perspectives and long-term longitudinal analyses.
Teaching responsibilities include courses such as Social Stratification, Social Statistics, and Introduction to Sociology. Condron has received the 2011 James Coleman Outstanding Article Award from the American Sociological Association's Sociology of Education Section. His community engagement includes advising programs and supporting scholarships within his department.
