Dennis Bennett is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, affiliated with the College of Letters & Science. His research focuses on inorganic chemistry with emphasis on molecular structure, bonding, and nanoscience applications. He holds a PhD from the University of Utah.
Research interests include testing the 'Molecular Wire' hypothesis to study charge conduction in oligomers, developing electrode-tethered catalysts to isolate catalytic effects, and investigating sulfoxy anion chemistry using advanced spectroscopic methods. Notable contributions include crystallographic studies of metal clusters and ligand interactions, as well as pioneering analytical methods for multicomponent anion analysis.
His publications from 2009-2010 emphasize structural characterization of organometallic compounds, catalytic mechanisms, and nanoelectronic device precursors. Collaborative work involves synthesizing novel ligands and studying their reactivity in complex systems. Current efforts aim to bridge fundamental chemistry with nanotechnology applications through molecular-scale conductivity studies.
Key achievements include authoring a textbook on single-crystal X-ray crystallography and developing innovative synthetic methodologies for studying charge density effects in molecular systems. His lab focuses on interdisciplinary approaches combining synthesis, spectroscopy, and theoretical modeling to advance materials science and catalysis.
