Denise Smith is an Instructor in the Department of Biology at Andrews University. She holds a BS and MS in Biology from Andrews University and a PhD in Biology from Western Michigan University. Her research focuses on cancer biology, particularly the role of Her2/Neu and NF-kB in breast and brain cancers. She collaborates with Dr. Desmond Murray in chemistry to screen anti-cancer molecules. Previously, she worked in respiratory therapy, then transitioned to academia after 11 years in healthcare.
Education:
- BS Biology, Andrews University
- MS Biology, Andrews University
- PhD Biology, Western Michigan University
Research Interests: Cancer biology, molecular mechanisms of oncogenes, taphonomy, and interdisciplinary collaborations in cancer research. Her work bridges cellular signaling in glioblastoma and breast cancer, with a focus on NF-kB and Her2/Neu pathways.
Publications: Her publications span hematology, cancer biology, and paleontology, including studies on blood thrombosis, glioblastoma signaling, and avian eggshell taphonomy. Recent work addresses breast cancer oncogene interactions.
