معرفی
Denise Riley is a Professor at Cornell University (A. D. White Professor-at-Large) and The European Graduate School/EGS. Formerly, she held roles at the University of East Anglia and was a Writer in Residence at the Tate Gallery. Her academic work bridges philosophy, poetics, and feminist theory, focusing on identity, language, and emotion. She studied English at Oxford and philosophy at Cambridge, later becoming a critically acclaimed poet and theorist.
Her research explores paradoxes of selfhood, the politics of language, and non-identitarian solidarity. Key works include War in the Nursery (1983), Am I That Name? (1988), and Impersonal Passion (2005). Her poetry collection Selected Poems (2000) showcases innovative rhythms and themes of social critique.
Riley’s articles critically address topics like linguistic guilt, consolation, and the right to solitude. She has held visiting fellowships in the U.S. and U.K., reflecting her transatlantic academic influence. Her work Time Lived, Without its Flow (2012) reflects on grief and temporality following the death of her child.
