Denise M. Lucombe is an Assistant Professor and Director of Field Education in the Department of Social Work at Virginia State University within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds a Doctor of Social Work (DSW) from Capella University (2021), a BSW and MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University, and an MA from Liberty University Theological Seminary.

Dr. Lucombe's research and practice focus on child welfare policies and their impacts on families, alongside trauma and resilience in communities. She has presented internationally in Cuba and Honduras, as well as nationally, with workshops such as: "Trauma & Resilience, One, without the other is Scary", "The African-American Church Response to Domestic Violence", and "Hoarding, the Secrecy, Shame, and the Law".
She actively contributes to university governance as a member of the Faculty Senate and Secretary for the Faculty Handbook revision sub-committee, while engaging in community outreach through the Richmond Police Faith Leaders group following traumatic events.
