Professor Denise Hawkes serves as Professor of Education Economics and Deputy Dean (Accreditations and Enhancement) at Anglia Ruskin University's Faculty of Business and Law. Her research examines higher education transitions, equality in academic settings, and doctoral education value. She has secured research funding from ESRC, OfS, and British Council.
Research focuses on economic aspects of education systems, including gender/ethnicity pay gaps, doctoral supervision effectiveness, and evaluation of teaching initiatives. Her publications in journals like American Economic Review analyze higher education economics from policy and labor market perspectives.
Professor Hawkes has supervised 10 doctoral students to completion and examined 11 doctoral theses. Current supervision interests include impact evaluation of higher education initiatives, eliminating awarding gaps, and addressing career progression disparities in academia.
