Denise Cloutier is a full Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Victoria, affiliated with the Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health since 2001. Her expertise spans health services research, quality of life, long-term care, and Indigenous methodologies. She holds a PhD from the University of Guelph.
Research: Focuses on aging populations’ care systems, healthy environments, and intersecting social determinants of health. Recent work includes studies on housing insecurity among older women, palliative care integration in long-term facilities, and rural-urban health disparities using data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging.
Awards: 2019 Provost’s Community Engaged Scholar Award for community-based research.
Funding: Supported by CIHR, SSHRC, MSFHR, and WHO. Current projects investigate homelessness pathways among older women with CIHR/SSHRC funding.
Teaching: Teaches courses like Health and Place, Qualitative Methods, and Exploring Aging through Film. Emphasizes lifelong learning and critical thinking through collaborative classroom approaches.
