Denise Charron-Prochownik

Denise Charron-Prochownik is a Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, affiliated with the Department of Health Promotion & Development. She is a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP) and Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN).

Research Interests: Her work focuses on theory-based intervention studies to improve cognitive/psychosocial factors influencing health behaviors and outcomes in children and adolescents with diabetes. She has developed online education-counseling programs for reproductive health and preconception counseling in adolescent and young adult women with diabetes, with recent projects targeting Latina and American Indian communities.

Teaching & Mentorship: She teaches Doctoral Research Seminar (NUR 3049) and Doctoral Manuscript Seminar (NUR 3052), and serves as chair or committee member for multiple doctoral dissertations. She has mentored students, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty in diabetes-related research.

Service & Leadership: Denise has held prominent roles in national diabetes organizations, including associate editor of Diabetes Care and Diabetes Spectrum, editorial board member of Pediatric Diabetes, and committee roles with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE). She also contributes to the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) and NIH NARCH study sections.
