Denise A. Chavira is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Her research focuses on Latino mental health, anxiety disorders, and the development of culturally adapted, feasible interventions for underserved populations including low-income and rural communities.
- Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from San Diego State University/UCSD Joint Doctoral Program
- Pre-doctoral internship at Brown University
- Postdoctoral fellowships at UCSD and UCLA’s Childhood OCD, Anxiety, and Tic Disorders Program
Her work examines how cultural factors influence psychopathology, mental illness conceptualizations, and service utilization among Latinos. She specializes in adapting evidence-based treatments for anxiety and depression using innovative delivery methods such as mobile apps and telehealth.
