Denis Hollier is Professor of French Literature, Thought and Culture at New York University. His research examines 20th-century French literature through interdisciplinary approaches connecting literary analysis with media theory, political philosophy, and avant-garde studies.
He earned his CAPES and Doctorat de Troisième Cycle in Paris. Hollier reconstructs intellectual networks through works like his edited volume of Michel Leiris's writings for the Pléiade edition and his study of the Collège de Sociologie group.
His scholarship analyzes relationships between aesthetic movements and political engagements, investigating how literary forms respond to historical crises. Major works include studies of Georges Bataille, Jean-Paul Sartre, and the intersection of architecture with textual practices.
As general editor of 'A New History of French Literature' and 'Panorama des sciences humaines,' Hollier has shaped understanding of French literary and intellectual traditions. His editorial work establishes frameworks for interpreting cultural production across historical periods.
