Denis Grünemeier

Denis Grünemeier, MA Dr. des., is a Research Associate (Postdoc) and Erasmus Coordinator at the University of Trier's Faculty III of Art History. His research focuses on the history, aesthetics, and politics of images, particularly cinematic topographies of the sea. He leads a habilitation project examining the sea as a motif and aesthetic space in cinema, combining film analysis and art historical approaches. Grünemeier is part of the TRANSMARE research network, exploring maritime cultural interactions across epochs. He holds a PhD from Humboldt University of Berlin (2022) and has taught at the University of Hildesheim. His work includes editorial roles, curatorial projects, and fellowships from the Gerda Henkel Foundation and Akademie Schloss Solitude. He teaches a BA seminar on photography theory and aesthetics.
