Demetrio Maltese is an Adjunct Professor of Commercial Law at Bocconi University and the University of Brescia, and a Fellow of Business Law at SDA Bocconi School of Management. He has taught at Bocconi since 2019 and at Brescia since 2021. Previously an attorney (2016-2021), he is now a Civil Law Notary in Milan and founding partner of FMNotai.
His educational background includes:
- Law degree with honors from "Mediterranea" University of Reggio Calabria, thesis on Corporate Social Responsibility
- LLM from the University of Cambridge
- PhD in Corporate Law from Bocconi University, dissertation on Shareholder Conflicts of Interest
Maltese's research centers on corporate law, with a focus on shareholder rights, conflicts of interest, and financial market regulation. He also investigates venture capital markets and the role of public and private sectors in legal frameworks across jurisdictions.
His recent publications (2021-2023) analyze corporate governance structures, asset transfers, shareholders' meetings in closed-end funds, and comparative studies of venture capital markets in the U.S., China, and the EU. The work often bridges European and U.S. legal perspectives.

Maltese serves on the Scientific Committee of the "Society Commission" of the Milan Notarial Council and the Brescia Observatory on Commercial Jurisprudence. He is also a member of the editorial boards of The Italian Law Journal and Rivista delle Società.
