Dr. Dejana Mokranjac is a Researcher at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, affiliated with the Faculty of Biology. Her work centers on mitochondrial biogenesis, particularly the import of nuclear-encoded proteins into mitochondria via the presequence pathway, utilizing the TOM and TIM23 complexes. She employs interdisciplinary approaches combining biochemistry, cell biology, yeast genetics, and structural biology to address fundamental questions about mitochondrial protein translocation and its integration into cellular physiology.
- Research Focus: Protein import mechanisms, mitochondrial function, and evolutionary conservation of the presequence pathway from yeast to humans.
- Key Techniques: Yeast genetics, biochemical assays, structural biology, and biophysics.
- Major Questions: TOM-TIM23 cooperation, energy conversion in translocation, and mitochondrial stress response.
