Deep Jariwala is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania in the Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering. His research focuses on nanoelectronics, nanophotonics, and 2D materials for applications in computing, sensing, and renewable energy. After earning a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University, he joined Caltech as a Resnick Prize Postdoctoral Fellow before moving to Penn.
- Research Themes: Nanoelectronics, Nanophotonics, Functional Imaging, Growth/Synthesis of 2D Materials
- Labs: Device Research and Engineering Laboratory at Penn; previously in Atwater Group at Caltech
Key Contributions: Pioneered gate-tunable mixed-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures, demonstrated ultra-thin photovoltaics with 2D materials, and invented three new electrical devices. His work bridges materials science, condensed matter physics, and optoelectronics, with a focus on scalable ferroelectric and quantum technologies.
Recent Article Trends: Focus on exciton-polaritons, ferroelectric AlScN, valleytronics, and ultrafast plasmonics in 2D systems. Publications span Nature, ACS Nano, Nano Letters, and Physical Review Letters.
