Declan Patton is a Full Professor and Director of Nursing and Midwifery Research at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), School of Nursing and Midwifery. He also serves as Deputy Director of the RCSI Skin Wounds and Trauma (SWaT) Research Centre. His roles include leading patient outcomes-focused research, supervising over 22 PhD students, and driving high-impact publications. He holds adjunct/honorary professorships at Griffith University (Australia), Fakeeh College for Medical Sciences (KSA), and the University of Wollongong (Australia).
- Educations: PhD in Health Sciences (Staffordshire University), MSc in Nursing (Trinity College Dublin), BSc in Nursing Studies (Trinity College Dublin).
- Research Interests: Focuses on wound care innovation, medical devices, and healthcare safety. Specializes in pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, and venous leg ulcers.
- Awards: Athena Swan Champion, Bronze Medal (2022), Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Tissue Viability.
Has secured €7M in research funding, led 63 grants, and published over 150 peer-reviewed articles, including 5 Cochrane Reviews. Served on national ethics committees, including Deputy Chair of Ireland’s first Medical Device Research Ethics Committee.
