Her educational foundation includes:
- Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the University of Minnesota (1988)

Dr. Steele-Johnson's research investigates how feedback mechanisms, goal-setting frameworks, self-regulatory processes, task design, leadership approaches, and individual traits (including Big Five personality dimensions and goal orientations) influence learning trajectories and performance outcomes in both individual and team environments. Her scholarship emphasizes translating theoretical insights into evidence-based training systems that enhance organizational effectiveness.
Prior to her current leadership role at Wright State, she held faculty positions in the Department of Psychology at the University of Houston, establishing her expertise in motivation-science applications across academic settings.
She actively directs the Motivation and Training Lab, which serves as the operational hub for her investigations into skill development dynamics and performance optimization strategies within complex task environments.
