Debra Lindsay is a Professor of History and Politics at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Saint John, where she has taught since 1997. Her academic journey includes previous roles at the University of Winnipeg and Simon Fraser University. Specializing in 19th-century science, her research examines intersections between gender, Indigenous knowledge, and scientific practices. She teaches courses on U.S. history, Indigenous peoples, pre-Civil War South, and gender studies.
Her notable works include Maria Martin’s World (2018), which earned a prestigious award, and studies on Audubon family dynamics and scientific collaborations. She has held significant roles such as Director of the Lorenzo Art series (2005–2012) and represents Saint John on the TRC implementation committee. Lindsay’s research extends to post-WWII UNRRA workers and 19th-century scientific controversies, blending historiography with interdisciplinary analysis.
Her academic contributions include over 20 years of conference presentations on topics like Audubon’s transnational influence, gender in science, and paleontological debates. She actively engages with public history through lectures and museum collaborations, emphasizing the role of art in historical interpretation.
