Lisa A. Lindsay is a Professor of History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, specializing in African social history with particular focus on Nigeria and transnational connections. Her research explores gender, labor, slavery, and biography, emphasizing human-scale experiences within broader historical processes. She holds a BA from Johns Hopkins University and MA/PhD from the University of Michigan.
Her notable works include Atlantic Bonds (2017), which won the African Studies Association’s top book award, and Working with Gender (2003). Current research examines women’s roles in the Atlantic slave trade from the Bight of Benin. Lindsay has been supported by prestigious fellowships from the NEH, ACLS, Guggenheim, and others.
