Deborah Roedder John is a Professor and the Curtis L. Carlson Chair in Marketing at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. She specializes in consumer behavior, focusing on brand strategies and children’s consumption patterns.

Her research examines brand extensions, cultural influences on branding, materialism in children, and self-brand connections. She explores how consumers perceive brand dilution, the role of cognitive styles in brand evaluation, and the ethical implications of luxury consumption.
Recent publications highlight trends in brand elasticity, counterfeit ethics, and age-related materialism. Her work bridges marketing theory with psychological frameworks, including self-theories and construal levels.
