Dr. Deborah Pino-Pasternak is a Professor of Early Childhood Education and Community and Associate Dean (Research and Enterprise) at the University of Canberra's Faculty of Education. She holds a Special Educational Needs teaching background from Chile, followed by graduate studies at the University of Cambridge focusing on self-regulated learning in young children. Her career includes roles at the University of Cambridge, Institute of Education (London), and Murdoch University (Australia).
Her research examines how home and school environments impact young children's self-regulatory skills, emphasizing parent-child and teacher-student interactions. Methodologically, she combines quantitative and qualitative approaches, with expertise in analyzing interactive video data.
Dr. Pino-Pasternak has secured significant grants including an ARC Discovery Early Career Research Award (2015-2017) and contributed to projects like 'Advancing future primary teachers’ engagement in science inquiry learning' (ARC DP150101142). She was also awarded the 2015 Vice Chancellor’s Citation for developing pedagogy fostering student self-determination.
She actively mentors graduate candidates in early childhood learning environments, infant development, and family-social interactions. Her work aims to bridge research with community impact for young children and families.
