Dr. Deborah Marshall is Professor at the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine, where she holds the Svare Chair in Health Economics. She serves as Scientific Director for Research Evaluation at Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute and Impact Lead for the One Child Every Child national initiative. Her affiliations include full membership in the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health and senior scientist position at Arthritis Research Canada.
Her research program focuses on:
- Health economics methodology development
- Patient preference analysis using discrete choice experiments
- Precision health implementation science
- Simulation modeling for chronic diseases
- Value assessment frameworks for rare diseases
Dr. Marshall leads major research consortia including UCAN CAN-DU, UCAN CURE, and IMAGINE, funded by CIHR and Genome Canada. She has received numerous honors:
- Royal Society of Canada Fellow (2024)
- ISPOR Marilyn Dix Smith Leadership Award (2024)
- Canadian Academy of Health Sciences Fellowship (2020)
- Killam Professorship (2019)
- CADTH Health Technology Assessment Excellence Award (2019)
She directs the Marshall Lab and teaches graduate courses in health economics and precision health. As Principal Applicant of CIHR's Health Systems Impact Fellowship program, she builds capacity for patient-centered learning health systems across Canada.
