Deborah Durham is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology at the College of the Holy Cross. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Chicago, where she developed expertise in ethnographic research and social theory. Her academic role involves teaching foundational and specialized courses in anthropology, including Introduction to Anthropology and Anthropology of the Emotions.
Her research centers on cultural anthropology with fieldwork in Botswana, examining:
- Citizenship dynamics of the Herero minority in liberal democracies
- Evolving concepts of youth and adulthood
- Interplay of sentiment, agency, and public discourse
- Globalization's impact on generational identities
- Cultural constructions of time and possibility
As editor of HAU Books, she has spearheaded publications analyzing emotions (disgust), temporal experiences, and globalization. Her editorial work demonstrates sustained engagement with anthropological frontiers, particularly through volumes exploring how societies navigate uncertainty and social change.
