Deborah Berkman serves as an Adjunct Professor of Clinical Law at Brooklyn Law School while concurrently working as a Senior Staff Attorney at the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), where she provides civil legal services to low-income communities across New York City.
Her academic background includes a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin and a J.D. from Fordham School of Law, providing foundational expertise in legal theory and practice.
Professor Berkman specializes in clinical legal education with demonstrated expertise in poverty law and civil legal aid systems. Her work focuses on bridging theoretical legal education with practical pro bono service through the Pro Bono Scholars Program, where she trains law students to address systemic justice gaps for underserved populations while developing professional legal competencies.
