Debora Viviani is a Temporary Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Sciences at the University of Verona, specializing in Sociology of Cultural and Communication Processes (GSPS-06/A). She teaches multiple sociology courses across various degree programs including Preventive and Adapted Exercise Science, Strategic Studies for Security and International Policies, Pedagogical Sciences, and Marketing and Corporate Communication.
Her research focuses on the sociology of the body with particular attention to emotions, social imagery, and the body-technology relationship. She studies consumption and purchase behavior, dynamics related to the body as a cultural element in personal identity construction, and the impact of medically assisted reproductive technologies on family configurations. Her work intersects with behavioral economics, social cognition, and science and technology studies as reflected in her ERC research sector classifications (SH1_9, SH4_2, SH3_12).
Viviani serves as Managing Editor for the A-class scientific journal 'Italian Sociological Review' and participates in the Departmental Interdisciplinary Research Group on EMOTIONS and the Sociology of Consumption research group. She chairs The Commission for Third Mission and serves on various academic bodies including the Faculty Board of PhD in Human Sciences and the Council for the Degree Course for Professional Educators.
Her current research projects include studies on family vulnerabilities (2024), genetic identity and parenthood in the era of reproductive techniques (PRIN 2022), medically assisted reproduction and surrogate maternity (2017), and consumer behavior during economic crises (2012-2010). She maintains an active teaching schedule with courses on Sociology of Symbolic Systems, Sociology of Communication and Consumption, and Sociology of Cultural and Communicative Processes across multiple academic years.
