Debora K. Shuger

Debora K. Shuger is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her work spans Renaissance and Early Modern Studies with a focus on Tudor-Stuart literature, early modern religious and political thought, and censorship.

Her research explores intersections between literature and theology, examining topics such as Tudor-Stuart devotional writing, biblical exegesis, and political theologies. She has also investigated gender, colonialism, and classical influences in early modern texts.

Shuger’s publications include studies of religious rhetoric, censorship, and the Renaissance Bible. Her recent work analyzes the paratextual elements of English Bibles from 1525-1611, reflecting on their cultural and theological implications.
