Dr. Debbie Rankin is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science and Course Director for the MSc Data Science program at Ulster University's School of Computing, Engineering and Intelligent Systems. She is a member of the Human Centred Computing research group.

- B.Sc. (Hons) Computing (First Class) with Diploma in Industrial Studies (Ulster University, 2008)
Dr. Rankin's research spans Artificial Intelligence, Synthetic Data, Health Informatics, and Machine Learning, with significant applications to public health policy, diabetes diagnosis, and mental health. Her work integrates Big Data, Data Analytics, and Privacy Preservation techniques in healthcare contexts.
Key projects include the €14M Horizon Europe LUCIA project (Principal Investigator) and the MIDAS project (Horizon 2020). She has published extensively on topics like synthetic data generation, machine learning reliability, and cognitive dysfunction prediction.
Awarded the Distinguished Collaborative Education Excellence Fellowship in 2021, Dr. Rankin serves on editorial boards and research ethics committees. She contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through Health Inequality research and Environmental Nutrition projects.
