Dr. Deanna Arble is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Marquette University, where she investigates the neurobiological mechanisms connecting Sleep, Circadian Rhythms, and Metabolism. Her work focuses on obesity-related sleep-disordered breathing, circadian regulation of respiration, and metabolic outcomes of hypoxia.
- B.A. Neuroscience (2005), University of Virginia
- Ph.D. Neuroscience (2011), Northwestern University
- Postdoctoral Fellow (2011-2014), University of Cincinnati
- Postdoctoral Fellow (2014-2016), University of Michigan
Her research employs neuronal-targeting techniques, pharmacological manipulations, and behavioral assays in preclinical mouse models to address questions about sleep apnea, circadian-cardiovascular interactions, and metabolic surgery outcomes. Her publications (2018-2022) span journals like Frontiers in Physiology and JCI Insights, with collaborations involving students such as Athena Rivera, Ellie Marino, Aaron Jones, and Sarah Framnes-DeBoer.
The Arble Lab explores how time-of-day variations affect hypoxia responses and energy utilization, with applications in obesity treatment and respiratory disorder management. She teaches courses including Neuroscience Foundations and Sleep and Circadian Rhythms.
