Dr Deane-Peter Baker serves as Associate Professor in the School of Humanities and Social Science at the University of New South Wales (UNSW Canberra) and Senior Visiting Research Fellow at King's College London Centre for Military Ethics.

- Director and 'Grand Warlock' of MERLIN (Military Ethics Research Lab and Innovation Network)
His research centers on military ethics with specific expertise in armed conflict ethics, special operations morality, and autonomous weapons systems. Current projects examine ethical frameworks for modern warfare scenarios and decision-making protocols in high-stakes military environments.
Recent publications reveal a clear trajectory toward analyzing emerging warfare technologies and specialized tactics through ethical lenses, particularly examining how traditional just war theory applies to drone warfare, special forces operations, and AI-driven combat systems.
Baker leads MERLIN at UNSW Canberra—a dedicated hub for military ethics innovation—and contributes to King's College London's Centre for Military Ethics within the School of Security Studies, fostering cross-institutional collaboration on ethical decision-making in defense contexts.
