Dean Toste

Dean Toste is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. His research spans organic, inorganic, and physical organic chemistry, with a focus on catalysis, supramolecular chemistry, and sustainable chemical transformations. He leads interdisciplinary projects in bioconjugation, electrochemistry, and organocatalysis, integrating data science to advance synthetic methodologies.

His electrochemistry subgroup develops redox-flow batteries and electrosynthetic methods, while the bioconjugation subgroup collaborates with pharmaceutical companies to innovate proteomics-driven drug development.

His awards include the ACS Elias J. Corey Award and NSF CAREER Award, alongside fellowships in the Royal Society of Canada, American Academy of Arts and Science, and National Academy of Science.
