Dean Lueck serves as Professor in the Department of Economics at Indiana University and Affiliated Professor of Law at the Maurer School of Law. He is a Faculty Affiliate at The Ostrom Workshop, where he founded and directed the Program on Natural Resource Governance from 2016 to 2022.
His academic credentials include:

Professor Lueck's research centers on the economics of contracts, property rights, and natural resource governance, with current projects examining environmental agency behavior, land demarcation systems, and wildfire management economics. His work bridges theoretical economic frameworks with practical policy applications in resource management.
His scholarly recognition includes:
- John M. Olin Faculty Fellowship at Yale Law School
- Lone Mountain Fellowship at PERC (2015)
Prior to academia, he served as a U.S. Forest Service smokejumper in McCall, Idaho. He has held visiting positions at institutions including the University of Toronto and Yale Law School, contributing expertise through guest lectureships worldwide.
