Dr Dean Garratt is a Senior Lecturer and Senior Teaching Fellow at Aston Business School, Aston University, specializing in economics education and macroeconomics. He holds positions as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an Associate of the Economics Network. His teaching focuses on fostering intuitive understanding of economics among students, particularly non-specialists, through innovative pedagogical approaches like problem-based learning (PBL). He co-authored influential economics textbooks including Economics, Essentials of Economics, and Economics for Business.
Dean’s research interests span economics pedagogy, residential property markets, politico-economic models, and financialization impacts. Notable accolades include the 2006 Economics Network Outstanding Teaching Prize and the 2013 Nottingham Business School Teacher of the Year Award.
