Dean D. Schwartz is an Associate Professor at Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine, specializing in Cardiovascular Physiology and Pharmacology within the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology. His research focuses on novel superoxide dismutase mimics for cardiac protection against oxidative stress.
- BS in Biology (1980) from Stonehill College
- PhD in Pharmacology (1987) from the University of Houston
Research interests span cardiovascular physiology, pharmacology, superoxide dismutase mimetics, CRISPR, zebrafish models, and toxicity screening. His laboratory integrates developmental biology, genetics, and cell biology to study oxidative stress mechanisms.
- Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (2019, 2015)
- SCAVMA Teacher of the Year (2017)
- Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award (2010)
Dean has been actively involved in teaching and research at Auburn University since 1998, with prior academic roles at the University of Tennessee. His work bridges physiological studies and advanced molecular techniques for translational applications.
