Dean Corbae serves as Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison with an additional appointment in the Department of Finance, Investment, and Banking at the Wisconsin School of Business. He has held visiting positions at the Wharton School, University of Cambridge, and as a Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Banks of Cleveland, Dallas, Minneapolis, and St. Louis.
Corbae earned his B.A. in Economics from Colgate University (1982) and Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University (1990). His research spans Macroeconomics and Econometrics, with current projects examining consumer credit markets, bankruptcy systems, foreclosure dynamics, and banking industry structures. He actively contributes to two major research networks:
- Inequality: Measurement, Interpretation, and Policy (MIP)
- Markets (M)
His scholarly work addresses critical intersections of financial systems and economic inequality, with publications in top-tier journals including Econometrica and the Journal of Political Economy. Recent investigations focus on employer credit checks and their implications for poverty traps versus labor market efficiency.
