Dr. DeMar Austin Neal, IV is an Associate Professor of Music at Wake Technical Community College, where he teaches courses ranging from music appreciation to class voice. He also holds adjunct instructor positions at North Carolina State University and Meredith College, teaching private voice lessons, lyric diction, music literature, and directing the a cappella ensemble Encore!. A critically-acclaimed performer, educator, and researcher, DeMar has performed with notable organizations such as the North Carolina Opera, Raleigh Symphony, and Tiber Sinfonia Festival, and is a founding member of the classical quartet VOX, featured on NBC’s America’s Got Talent.

DeMar’s research focuses on the song cycles of composers Jake Heggie and Sidney Homer, as well as semi-occluded vocal tract rehabilitative therapy. He has presented at conferences on vocal health and pedagogy, including talks like “How (Not) to Ruin Your Voice” and “Warm Ups That Work.”
His professional affiliations include active membership and leadership in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), where he currently serves as National Vice President for Workshops. He has also contributed to the field through a cappella arranging, stage direction, and conducting, including his debut performance of Britten’s Albert Herring at Meredith College.
