Alberto De Franceschi is a Full Professor of Private Law at the University of Ferrara and holds global academic roles including Global Law Professor at KU Leuven (Belgium) and Visiting Professor at Zhejiang University (China). His expertise spans Digital Law, Environmental Sustainability, and EU Consumer Protection. He chairs the European Law Institute’s Digital Law and Sustainability Special Interest Groups, awarded as top SIGs (2019–2022).
Education: PhD in Law of Obligations (University of Ferrara), with extended research fellowships at Max Planck Institute (Germany) and Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (LMU Munich). Visiting Fellowships at University of Oxford and European University Institute.
Research focuses on digital economy regulation, AI liability, sustainable consumption, and climate justice. His work addresses global challenges in digital contracts, data protection, and platform governance. He co-authored the EU Commission’s Fitness Check on Consumer Law and advises international bodies like UNCITRAL and UNIDROIT.
Awards highlight his contributions to legal scholarship, including the DAAD Ladislao Mittner Award (2015) and SIG Excellence Certificates (2019–2022). He co-edits leading journals like Journal of European Consumer and Market Law and The Italian Law Journal.
