معرفی
Dawn Marie Dechand is an Associate Professor at Michigan State University, affiliated with the College of Engineering and the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in the Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering. She integrates engineering research with ecological systems to address environmental challenges, particularly in pollution control and natural resource management.
Education:
- PhD in Environmental Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology (2007)
- B.S. in Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Kansas State University (2002) with a secondary major in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences
Research Interests: Dr. Dechand’s work focuses on Ecosystem Engineering, examining the fate of fluorinated pollutants in duckweed systems and advancing bioremediation strategies. She contributes to Ecological Engineering through applied research and educational initiatives, including a study abroad course on ecological engineering in the tropics. Her emphasis on Pollution Control Engineering is reflected in courses like BE 482: Diffuse Source Pollution Control Engineering. Additionally, she engages in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) to improve pedagogical practices in engineering education.
Professional Roles and Teaching: Dr. Dechand teaches undergraduate courses such as BE 332: Properties of Biological Materials and leads a study abroad program in Costa Rica focused on ecological engineering. She balances engineering research, teaching, SOTL, and professional service.
Labs and Teams: She is part of the Ecosystem Engineering group within Biosystems Engineering at Michigan State University.
Volunteer Work: Dr. Dechand volunteers with Parks in Focus, a program by the Morris K. and Stewart L. Udall Foundation that connects underserved youth to nature through photography.
