Dawit Assefa is a Research Fellow in the Department of Clinical Virology at Lund University, Malmö. His work focuses on HIV/AIDS research, antiretroviral therapy, drug resistance, and infectious disease epidemiology. He contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being. His research explores viral suppression patterns, transmission dynamics, and treatment outcomes in Ethiopia and Kenya.
Assefa has participated in key projects such as THESA, investigating HIV transmission and treatment monitoring in Ethiopia, and studies on HIV-1 drug resistance and behavioral interventions. He presented at the 26th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in 2019.
His research outputs include studies on second-line antiretroviral therapy efficacy, pre-treatment drug resistance trends, and community interventions for tuberculosis prevention in Ethiopia. Collaborations span institutions in Kenya, Ethiopia, and Sweden.
