Dawid Lubowicz (b. 1981) is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Jazz and Popular Music within the Faculty of Arts at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. He is a multifaceted violinist, mandolinist, composer, and arranger with a distinguished career in both classical and jazz music. Lubowicz graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw under Professor Konstanty Andrzej Kulka and studied jazz violin under Dr. Henryk Gembalski at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music.
His research and creative work focus on jazz performance, music composition, arrangement, and interdisciplinary genres like tango and musical theatre. Lubowicz is a co-founder of renowned ensembles including alTango, Opium String Quartet, Atom String Quartet, and Bester Quartet, blending diverse stylistic elements into his compositions. His contributions to the musical "Piloci" (Pilots) at Roma Musical Theatre earned platinum and gold certifications, reflecting his impact on popular music.
Scientific awards include:
- Third Prize and Special Award at Zbigniew Seifert International Jazz Violin Competition (2018)
- Fourth Prize in the Crossover Composition Award in Mannheim (2023)
Lubowicz has released multiple acclaimed albums such as Inside (2018), Stories (2022, with Christian Danowicz), and Human Fate (2024), showcasing his dual expertise on violin and mandolin. He collaborates with global artists like Bobby McFerrin, Branford Marsalis, and Leszek Możdżer, and contributes as an arranger to institutions such as the National Theatre Warsaw and Opera Nova Bydgoszcz.
