Dr. Davide Zori is an Associate Professor of History and Archaeology within the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC) at Baylor University, with additional affiliation to the Department of History. He holds a Ph.D. (2010) and M.A. (2004) from the University of California, Los Angeles' Cotsen Institute of Archaeology, and a B.A. (2002) from the University of Florida in History and Anthropology.
His research employs interdisciplinary methods to study medieval societies, focusing on two primary areas: the Viking expansion into the North Atlantic (examining Norse environmental adaptation, political systems, and migrant society formation in Iceland) and Italian population movements to fortified hilltop settlements (8th-12th centuries). He directs the San Giuliano Archaeological Research Project in central Italy, excavating Etruscan and medieval sites while involving Baylor students in fieldwork.
Zori's publications demonstrate consistent focus on Viking-era political economies, funerary practices, and settlement archaeology. Recent works show increased attention to material culture analysis (especially glass artifacts) and interdisciplinary approaches to resilience in marginal environments. His research bridges archaeology, history, and environmental studies.
Currently open to graduate students, he teaches courses including World Cultures I–V, Social World I, Capstone, Vikings, medieval history, and interdisciplinary historical methods. He has contributed to media productions like Discovery Channel's 'Expedition Unknown' discussing his archaeological findings.
