David Wright is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Cumbria's Pears Cumbria School of Medicine. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Applied Psychology from Lancaster University, a Diploma in Person Centred Counselling, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PgCLTHE). He is a Member of the British Psychological Society (MBPsS), British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), and a Registered Qualified Test User with the BPS Psychometric Test Centre. His research focuses on Environmental Psychology, Political Psychology, Cross-Cultural Psychology, Mental Health, and Suicide Prevention, with a particular interest in alternative teaching methods and educational engagement.
He has extensive professional experience, including a decade in private practice as a specialist self-harm counsellor, roles as Director/Trustee for Self Injury Support in North Cumbria (2011–2012), and Self-Harm/Suicide Prevention Trainer (2012–2014). His doctoral research explores political, philosophical, and biopsychosocial influences on engagement with nature-based alternative lifestyles.
