Dr. David Wilde is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Nottingham Trent University's School of Social Sciences, where he has been teaching since November 2011. He serves as module leader for undergraduate courses in Individual Differences and Psychology of Anomalous Experiences, and the MSc module Qualitative Research Design and Analysis. Wilde supervises PhD students and leads the university's Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis Group.

His research focuses on anomalous experiences, particularly out-of-body and near-death experiences (NDEs), using qualitative methods. He has explored the relationship between OBEs/NDEs and self-concept, visual imagery skills, and existential meaning-making. Additional interests include palliative care research protocols, patient/consumer involvement in cancer research, and third-age men's fashion behaviors.
Recent publications analyze IVF disclosure challenges (2025), intimate partner abuse mechanisms (2023), hoarding behaviors (2023), and volunteer firefighter resilience (2020). Collaborations include Macmillan Cancer Support and Bial Foundation-funded projects. Wilde is a visiting lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University and has contributed chapters to key psychology texts like Essential Psychology and Making Sense of Near-Death Experiences.
