معرفی
Dr. David Wheeler was a Full Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Public Health, where he held academic ranks from Assistant (2011) to Full Professor (2023). He specialized in spatial epidemiology, environmental exposures, and cancer risk analysis. His research emphasized mixture analysis and socioeconomic determinants of health.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Geography, Ohio State University
- M.S. in Applied Statistics, Ohio State University
- M.P.H., Harvard University
- Postdoctoral Fellowships: Emory University (Biostatistics) and the National Cancer Institute (Cancer Prevention)
Research Interests: Dr. Wheeler focused on spatial patterns of disease, environmental justice, and the impact of neighborhood disadvantage on health outcomes. He pioneered methods for analyzing chemical mixtures and developed Bayesian spatial models to assess cumulative risk factors.
Grants & Awards: Principal Investigator on 12 grants from the National Cancer Institute and American Cancer Society. Awarded the Best Elective Course honor in 2019 for his MPH teaching in spatial data analysis.
Advising & Mentoring: Guided seven Ph.D. students and served on 13 dissertation committees, focusing on spatial models for environmental exposures and causal inference.
Labs & Affiliations: Directed the Biostatistical Consulting Laboratory and contributed to the Data Coordinating Center at VCU. Served on the editorial board of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health since 2019.
