David R. Weaver is a Professor at UMass Chan Medical School, with appointments in the Department of Neurobiology, NeuroNexus Institute, and graduate programs including MD/PhD Program and Neuroscience. His career spans multiple institutions including Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.
- B.S. in Zoology, Michigan State University (1981)
- Ph.D. in Zoology & Neuroscience, Michigan State University (1985)
- Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Mass General Hospital (1985-1987)
Weaver's research focuses on the molecular physiology of circadian rhythms, particularly the role of the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) as the master circadian pacemaker. His work explores transcriptional-translational feedback loops, clock gene mutations, and peripheral oscillator systems using transgenic mouse models and bioluminescence monitoring.
Recent publications examine circadian regulation of amyloid-beta accumulation, hepatocarcinoma targeting, and intestinal regeneration. His studies span neuroscience, physiology, and molecular biology, often integrating chronobiological methods with metabolic disease research.
As Director of the Neuroscience Graduate Program (2005-2006), Weaver has shaped graduate education. Current projects investigate genetic models of circadian disruption and extra-cerebral clock mechanisms.
